Size Does Matter

If you could see my desk, you'd know I like to spread my things out. I need plenty of room for all my papers, books, Oblique Strategies cards, and other desk-based flotsam. When my desk is small, it feels like a mess and I can't seem to focus on anything.

Similarly, the Google Notebook browser extension has always felt a bit cramped. It's small enough to leave open while I'm surfing and add new stuff, but not really big enough to easily view my existing notes. So you can imagine my pleasure that the latest release includes the ability to choose a size for the mini notebook! Now when I open up a recipe in my recipes notebook, it's big enough for me to follow along (no more imperfectly boiled eggs for this designer!).

To change the size of your mini-Notebook, just open the Tools menu and pick "Resize." You can choose small, medium, or large.

Of course, not everyone might need or want a 5,000 square-foot home, so we'd love your feedback: What size options would be useful? Is it helpful to have a choice?

i think some times i will use "medium" or "Large" but "small" it´s realy small :-) and yes it´s very helpful.

i like the size options. i prefer things spread out ... for instance, my browsers and various programs are generally full screen for that reason

keep up the great work!

This is great. Google Notebook is one of the best tools available.

It's always good to have options. Thanks for all the work on Google Notebook!

With that said, I prefer the small size. It's unobtrusive, how I like my add-ons. :)

It's nice to have the option, but I will personally keep it the small size.

However, there are times when I want to go to the full version of Google Notebook and I have to click the icon... wait for the mini version to load... then click "open in full page". This is a very slow way of doing this. It would be awesome if, for instance, I could double-click the little icon and have this take me directly to the Google Notebook website.

Often, the only reason I need the full version is to perform a search. So an alternative solution would be to include a search box in the mini version. I wouldn't mind if performing a search just opens a new tab with the results in the full version of the site... anything that prevents me from having to do what I do now, or prevents me from having to take up even more screen real estate by keeping an additional bookmark or link somewhere.

I enjoy using the large window. It's a over view and kind of a scope of what you have.

Choice is definitely awesome.

I use a lot the small window bloc note but since firefox 3 (on mac OSX 10.4) there is a big bug on it when you scroll down the main window.

Definitely appreciate the option to resize the mini-notebook but it appears to only be a vertical resize. It would be nice if there was also a bit of horz. resize to it as well.

I use small just fine. How I usually use the Firefox extension for gNotebook is to clip news articles and/or quotes and/or excerpts that I want to keep. So it's either the small size, or the full page size. FOr the few occasions that I would like to resize, I would much prefer an icon to switch sizes, rather than having to go to tools > resize > select size > ok. That's 5 clicks!

and i love my google notebook so much too! but i usually use my pc from work. they've robbed us of our google toolbar and now i have to have a page open just for my notebook whenever i want to add to it.

i would love to see a floating google toolbar that we could have on all our google related pages should we choose to use it. i think that would be wonderful.

and didn't we have a floating notebook thingy? god...what am i talking about? LOL!!! :)

@ Gregorio: I have the same exact scrolling problem with the extension (I use FF3 on Mac OS X 10.4). But a quick google search yields very few mentions of it -- no other mac user has had this problem??

I also have trouble loading the extension, especially when I have to open the pop-up window (which I'm forced to do, because of the scrolling bug). It just gets stuck on loading and I have to restart firefox. I've disabled all my extensions and re-enabled them one by one to see if any add-on is responsible for this, but no dice.

Where can I notify the developers about this (or how can I resolve it, if there is a solution)?

@pandabot and Gregorio: I've got the scrolling problem as well (FF3 on Mac OS X 10.5). It seems that nstalling a smooth-scrolling extension helped for mouse/trackpad scrolling.

However, keyboard scrolling still has the same problem. I think it has to do something with the re-rendering of the page with each scroll.

Let me add my voice to the chorus of people complaining about the scrolling problem with firefox in a mac..
